Okay, so this isn’t coffee. These are TONEX captures—really cool ones, at that.
There are a ridiculous number of variables that affect an amp’s sound: power and preamp tubes, tube brands, transformers, cabinet size and construction, speaker type and age, mics, mic placement, processing, etc. Too many to list. Any change in those variables can affect the tone you hear in your monitors, in-ears, or PA.
So TEDDYBLENDS is an adventure in exploring what happens when we change all of those variables. What does HEAD COACH sound like through the PAISLEY cab? What if I use a 013 as the lead mic sound? What if I use different plug-ins? Or what if I blend two amps together into one capture? WHAT IF?! The possibilities are endless, and it’s exciting for me.
VOL. 1 includes some experimentation with BRAD and PAISLEY.
The I captures are those amps into the Matchless 112 cab, which has a Matchless Celestion Creamback. These will feel a bit stronger in the low mids, with a smoother, tighter top end. The Sennheiser MD 441 is the lead mic sound, with the Soyuz 013 blended in for the low-end info.
The II captures are those amps into the Bruno cab, which has two very broken-in Alnico Blues. I absolutely LOVE this cabinet. The Blues have a more vintage sound and feel. The low end feels a bit looser, and the highs are breath-y and a bit unruly. The IIs are absolutely my favorite in this pack. They feel very “gloves off” to me—just aggressive and wild. The Soyuz 013 is the lead mic sound (placed pretty far off the speaker), and the Sennheiser MD 441 is blended in for the low-end info.
Even with these differences, these captures are all the things that I aim for—beautiful, dynamic, expressive, harmonic, and versatile. I’m so stoked on these, and I’m sure you will be too. Have fun, y’all!
Recommendations:
Input trim between 0 and +2 on these. I highly recommend sweeping the gain knob around when you first load the captures into the pedals. This brings the life back into the captures (not sure why, but that’s just what I hear), then set your gain knob where you want it.
Both of these are “DIRTY & BRIGHT.” You can easily clean them up (roll back the gain knob) or tame the highs (roll off presence).
