Say hello to BRAD MAYOR—a stereo pairing of two of the most inspiring amps I’ve ever played: the Grammatico PDR ("MAYOR") and the Dr. Z Z Wreck ("BRAD").

At first glance, this might seem like your typical American/British combo—but trust me, it’s not. While they start from those classic designs, both amps go way beyond what you’d expect. They’re refined, highly-tuned versions of those styles—massively dynamic, rich with harmonics, and incredibly fun to play.

MAYOR (Grammatico PDR) is a Dumble Steel String Singer-inspired circuit in a Princeton-style cab. It’s big, clean, and full of life—super touch-sensitive with crazy note separation and depth.

BRAD (Dr. Z Z Wreck), designed with the legendary Ken Fischer, takes the AC30 concept to the next level. It’s chimey, rich, and feels like it breathes with every note—what a Vox should have been.

Both BRAD and MAYOR include two captures each:

  • I – An edge of breakup capture with rich harmonics and great dynamics.

  • II – A cleaner, slightly darker capture that stays open and full.

These captures were made using my brand new mic’d-up capture setup—no load boxes, no emulated speakers, just real cabs and real air.

  • MAYOR was captured through a Celestion G12-65.

  • BRAD was captured through Celestion Alnico Blue and Gold speakers.

  • Both cabs mic’d with a Shure SM57 and Beyerdynamic M 160—a classic dynamic and ribbon mic combo.

  • Captured using Advanced mode for the most detailed, realistic result possible.

Whether you run them on their own or together in stereo, BRAD MAYOR brings these two incredible amps to life in your Tonex rig.

INPUT TRIM RECOMMENDATION: 8.5

FAQ

  • The bundles are in phase. However, once you start trying different combinations, I cannot guarantee all of them will be in phase. Thankfully, phase misalignment is very easy to resolve. Most FOH consoles have a phase reversal switch, and if you're willing to invest, Pinstripe makes phenomenal DIs that can fix it.

  • In my experience, input trim is highly subjective and varies from person to person. I have captures that sound best (to my ears) at +15, but those same captures work at +8.5 in other rigs. Everyone’s hands and setups are so different! I recommend starting at +8.5 and adjusting from there. You should notice a good amount of sustain, and the captures should feel incredibly dynamic. If you’re lacking either of these, increase the trim. If there’s too much compression or gain, lower the trim.

  • Absolutely. Tweak away! Use your ears. If the high notes are a little too harsh, bring the presence down. If lows are too boomy, bring down depth or bass! You have a lot of wiggle room with these.

  • Yep! CLEANWATER PLUS and MAVERICK & GRAND CANYON (PLUS AND STANDARD) are for you.
