This one is really special. The 2001 BadCat Cub 15R isn’t just any amp—it’s the very first Cub model, from the legendary Sampson-era of BadCat. This amp was my first real workhorse. I cut my teeth gigging and traveling through college with it. I saved up for my wife’s engagement ring using this amp, and years later I sold it so she could get a tattoo. I thought about this amp every week for six years. I had to get it back.

In May 2025, I put the word out on socials to see if anyone knew where it ended up. A few DM’s later, I tracked it down and bought it back. Having it home again—this time for good—means the world to me. That makes these captures not just another release, but something deeply personal.

Enhanced with IK’s V2 Update

With IK’s V2 update, these captures are extremely flexible. I cooked them a little hotter so you can dial them back exactly where you want them.

  • Input Trim: Set to 0, then pull the gain level back to taste.

  • Presence & Depth: Don’t be afraid to shape with these controls—they really let you fine-tune the Cub to your rig.

  • Flexibility: Wide-open and dynamic, they work beautifully with humbuckers, single coils, and any pedalboard chain, without fighting baked-in coloration.

The Cub 15R has always been known for its harmonic sparkle, dynamic response, and a touch of rowdiness that makes it come alive on stage. But this one has even more weight for me because it’s not just part of the BadCat legacy—it’s part of my own story.
