This collection of captures comes from a 2007 Vox AC15 Handwired, the rare mahogany limited edition cabinet. Vox only produced a small number of these that year—allegedly just 200 worldwide—making this not only a phenomenal-sounding amp but also a highly collectible piece of Vox history.
The 2007 Handwired AC15 is a Korg-era build, bringing together two of the most iconic Vox circuits:
EF86 Channel – a faithful recreation of the original late-’50s AC15 design, featuring the EF86 pentode preamp. Known for its touch sensitivity, harmonic richness, and glassy, almost hi-fi chime, this was the very first voice of Vox.
12AX7 (Top Boost) Channel – based on the mid-’60s AC30 Top Boost design, delivering the classic jangly brilliance, articulate breakup, and sparkling cleans.
Jumped Mode – blending the EF86 and Top Boost channels for an incredibly thick, harmonically complex sound.
Together, these circuits feel like the obvious inspiration for the Matchless C30. The similarities in structure and tone are undeniable, but the Vox has a more vintage, organic character that makes it uniquely inspiring.
The mahogany cab is loaded with a Celestion Vox Blue Alnico, long considered the definitive pairing for an AC15. This particular speaker is deeply broken-in, giving it a three-dimensional openness, airy top end, and sweet compression when pushed.
On a personal note, I’ve played countless Vox amps over the years, and this one is exactly what I want a Vox to sound like. It’s huge, jangly, aggressive yet vintage, with cleans that are simply stunning. Out of every Vox I’ve ever owned or played, this is by far the best one—the perfect balance of history, tone, and feel. WOODY is an excellent representation of what the amp feels like, how it sounds, and how inspiring it is.

How to Dial Them In
With IK’s V2 update, these captures are extremely flexible. I cooked them a little hotter so you can dial them back exactly where you want them.
Input Trim: Set to 0, then pull the gain level back to taste.
Presence & Depth: Don’t be afraid to shape with these controls—they really let you fine-tune WOODY to your rig.
Flexibility: Wide-open and dynamic, they work beautifully with humbuckers, single coils, and any pedalboard chain, without fighting baked-in coloration.
