These captures come from the new VOX AC30 Hand-Wired (HWR2X) combo, a meticulously engineered take on the classic 1960s AC30 design. The amp delivers 30 watts through four EL84 power tubes and a GZ34 rectifier, driving a pair of 12″ Celestion Alnico Blue speakers in a lightweight birch-ply cabinet. VOX pursued authenticity with turret-board hand wiring and custom output transformers, delivering the vintage “sag” and compression players love.
The amp retains the classic two-channel architecture (Normal + Top Boost), but here your captures are all drawn from the Normal channel. The included models in this pack are:
DIRTY & BRIGHT
DIRTY & DARK
CLEAN & BRIGHT
CLEAN & DARK
Each one embodies the DNA of the AC30’s voice while offering tonal flexibility across clean and driven territory.
General Impressions
These captures fatten up the VOX character: you get a big, full sound with weight in the low end, musical mids, and that unmistakable VOX jangle and chime on top. The mic pairing (Soyuz 013 + Beyerdynamic M 160) adds dimensional depth and nuance. They’re expressive and lively, breathing with your dynamics, and they function well across genres—whether you need pristine clean sparkle or gritty overdrive tones that sit naturally in a mix.
Built for V2 Flexibility
With IK’s V2 update, these captures are extremely flexible. I cooked them a little hotter so you can dial them back exactly where you want them:
Input Trim → Set to 0, then pull the gain level back to taste.
Presence & Depth → Don’t be afraid to shape with these controls—they really let you fine-tune the amp to your rig.
Flexibility → Wide-open and dynamic, they work beautifully with humbuckers, single coils, and any pedalboard chain, without fighting baked-in coloration.
