Killer tone for TONEX, free.

FREE MAYOR is a special release for the TONEX platform, based on the same Grammatico PDR featured in BRAD MAYOR, but captured this time with a Celestion G12H-75 speaker instead of the G12-65. Originally, this was intended as an alternate speaker option for building wide, stereo rigs. However, I later discovered that these captures ended up being out of phase with the original G12-65 captures, making them less ideal for stereo pairing.

Rather than letting these sit on the shelf, I decided to release them for free—giving you a great way to experience what TeddyTones captures are all about. FREE MAYOR delivers the same dynamic, harmonically rich character of the PDR amp, just voiced through a different speaker.

This free release includes two captures:

  • I – an edge of breakup capture, touch-sensitive and dynamic.

  • II – a cleaner, slightly darker capture, perfect for pedal platforms or smooth clean tones.

If you’ve been curious about trying TeddyTones, this is the perfect opportunity to experience this style of capture for the TONEX platform. Whether you use it live, in the studio, or at home, I hope you enjoy putting FREE MAYOR to work in your rig.

FAQ

  • The bundles are in phase. However, once you start trying different combinations, I cannot guarantee all of them will be in phase. Thankfully, phase misalignment is very easy to resolve. Most FOH consoles have a phase reversal switch, and if you're willing to invest, Pinstripe makes phenomenal DIs that can fix it.

  • In my experience, input trim is highly subjective and varies from person to person. I have captures that sound best (to my ears) at +15, but those same captures work at +8.5 in other rigs. Everyone’s hands and setups are so different! I recommend starting at +8.5 and adjusting from there. You should notice a good amount of sustain, and the captures should feel incredibly dynamic. If you’re lacking either of these, increase the trim. If there’s too much compression or gain, lower the trim.

  • Absolutely. Tweak away! Use your ears. If the high notes are a little too harsh, bring the presence down. If lows are too boomy, bring down depth or bass! You have a lot of wiggle room with these.

  • Yep! CLEANWATER PLUS and MAVERICK & GRAND CANYON (PLUS AND STANDARD) are for you.
