Meet BIG BACK — my brand‑new Tonex captures of the Dr. Z Z‑80. If you’re after a tone where every note feels hugeand alive, this is the one.

The Dr. Z Z‑80 is just plain special. It delivers sparkling, articulate cleans, fat open chords, and driven tones that roar while still staying clear and musical. It’s insanely dynamic — the kind of amp that responds to every nuance in your playing. And these captures bring all of that straight into your rig.

This pack includes four captures:

  • BIG BACK I (Dirty)

  • BIG BACK II (Clean)

  • BIG BACK I_DI (Dirty)

  • BIG BACK II_DI (Clean)

For the mic’d versions, I ran the Z‑80 through its matching 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion Alnico Golds, captured with an Austrian Audio OC18 and a classic Shure 545. The blend gives you that unmistakable punch and chime, with the perfect mix of modern detail and vintage vibe.

For the first time, I’m including DI captures — a direct capture of the amp itself with no cabinet. Perfect for experimenting with different IRs. Soon, you’ll be able to pair these with the TT IRs of this amp to find your favorite mic combo for the Z-80 cab. Coming very soon!

As always, the process is clean and natural — no heavy EQ, no unnecessary compression. Just pure Z‑80 tone: big, open, and flexible enough for any setup.
